End of October Collegiate 4-H Volunteers at Indiana University Meeting Minutes

Option 1: 10/30/11 7PM Mother Bear's Pizza
Laura got there early to get us a table since Mother Bear's doesn't take call ins.
We began the night at Mother Bear's where we had a short meeting.
There were a few haunted IU locations that came up in conversation.
We walked to the IMU to look for a haunted house to go to, but were unsuccessful. We went geocaching at Griffy Woods, but did not find the cache.

There were very few costumes, but we had plenty of candy.

Relay For Life Committee
This committee has dissolved and needs to be rebuilt.
Brady, Laura, Kate, and Monique will be on the committee. (Please reply to this e-mail if you’re interested in helping. Please specify if you’d like to be chair, a committee member, or if you’d just like to walk in Relay.)
We need a chair to sign our team up by Thanksgiving and go to monthly meetings. The date for the Relay for Life walk is April 14th through the morning of the 15th.
Olivia, Jackie, Emma, and Shane signed up to walk in Relay For Life.
Start asking for donations around Thanksgiving. We will hopefully have a team page soon.
Fundraising Committee
Work at the VFW to potentially get ($2,500). We need the money to reimburse the club after the conference.
Nathan is looking into our club selling hot dogs. (We could potentially make a lot of money off that too.)

The National Collegiate 4-H Conference will take place during Relay for Life.
Jackie needs us to give her information for her to pass on to the advisor she found us.

We will be volunteering at the Jill Behrman 5K from 8AM until noon on 10/22/11.

Jill was the daughter of Monroe COunty's former extension educator. She went out for a run. While she was running, she was abducted and later killed. It took 3 years to find her body.

This is appropriate because Lauren Spierer is missing right now. I hope they find her soon.

Relay For Life Committee:
Michael & Nathan will co-chair this.
Jess will set the guys up with Jennifer Cullins so she can give them ideas to work off of. She’s led our Relay team plenty of times.
The event is the same week as nationals.
We were hesitant, but decided to do Relay anyway.

Fundraising Committee:
Study-athon- the documents are done, and will go out in the next e-mail.
Gift Wrapping for donations at Barnes & Noble? maybe next month.
Wear 4-H Shirts.
Dine in & Donate Membership Drive next semester.
We need to vote on what % of fundraising goes towards your account at the next general body meeting.

T-Shirt Committee:
For the main place we’re looking at now (Nigth Owl): We need 24 shirts for a group discount. $9 a shirt. $11.75 if the shirts has designs on the front and the back of the shirt. That’s really cheap. They can screen or embroider fleece. Screen printing fleece might look tacky.
Jess has a contact we need to utilize.

Indiana/Ohio Conference Committee:
We came up with this in the van ride back from the NCR Conference.
Purdue is holding this. They got a $500 grant. It will probably not be an overnight event. We could volunteer to help them plan it.
We’re going to send them what we came up with.
We might set Brady (Jennifer would be willing to do this if Brady decides not to do this.) up with Tyler (PU) via Nathan.
Someone from extension or the State office would have to be on the planning committee for this.
Jeff just got a new position, so he wouldn’t have the time to do this.
We could host the 2014+ North Central Region Conference?
We could host it in Indy?
We would have to work super hard on fundraising, grants, and sponsorships.
Clubs have dissolved from the stress of an event like this. It might make the non-committee members feel outside of the loop.

National Collegiate 4-H Conference
We need to get the prices for this & book soon.
We need to subscribe for the dates on Kayak.Com and HotWire.Com
Fly with Southwest Airlines because it’s cheap.
Use frequent flyer miles.
Your fundraising goes towards this.
5+ people might qualify as a group rate.
We want to keep our money at the IU Credit Union rather than getting an SOA account.
It’s a lot easier to get reimbursed etc.
The vote to stay where we’re at was unanimous.

Nominations will be accepted in November.
Elections will take place at the December meeting. We will still use the PowerPoint idea as a presentation at that meeting.

I was thinking about having a "Go Green! Party" with the Jr. Leaders 4-H club and maybe the rest of Monroe County 4-H to allow them to meet each other. The ideas that I came up with are listed below. We could eventually use this to help 4-Hers from local counties (esp jr. leaders or collegiate 4-H to get to know each other.) I thought it would be cool to have to poster that they make to advertise 4-H for the county & to advertise IU Collegiate 4-H.

Everyone wears green.
Make a cool display board (or a bunch of green posters) about what members like best about their local (& state) 4-H program. Or what 4-H is to them. Or what ever they want to put down.
Play music

Have a display about successful 4-Hers
Drink Green Punch?
Eat Green food?
Have this happen around St. Patrick’s Day (when we & they are not on Spring Break)
Invite other counties to have their 4-Hers join us?

Attention all high school Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors in Area V, Morgan, and Brown counties! Are you unsure about what university you want to attend and want to get a closer look at college life provided by the students themselves? If so, then Indiana University Collegiate 4-H members invite 4-H members and friends to join them on October 18th at the Monroe County Fairgrounds 4-H Building for a college prep seminar poised to help students transition into college life.

The program is open to 4-H members, parents, and any other interested friends. The price including lunch is $10 if you preregister by October 3rd. Onsite registrations will be accepted for $20. Register early because spots may fill quickly!

Some of the program’s features are:

* A hands-on scholarship and college application workshop
* One-on-one interaction with college students
* Learn about college life from the “experts” at a round-table discussion
* Financial Aid advice
* Chance to network with other college bound 4-H members

We meet every two weeks and have many opportunities for you to volunteer with 4-H members throughout the year. We aim to have something for everyone and fit any schedule. We also offer many other optional volunteer opportunities within the community and on campus, allowing you to meet new people and make a difference in Bloomington and beyond.

What's cool about Collegiate 4-H? We're all the fun of 4-H with more things to choose from and less to commit to! And no 4-H projects. We serve as 4-H volunteers in a very non-traditional way meaning you're not committing to a club year-round or needing to be at every event. Lots of opportunities to select from. And if we don't have the 4-H volunteer opportunity you're looking for, let us know and we'll add it

We're still deciding on a fall meeting day and time, so please let us know which days and times work for you at http://doodle.ch/xucdsv7bt8gp9mah
so we can try to accommodate the schedules of everyone who's interested. We need your schedule by noon on Friday, August 29th at NOON! We'll announce the new meeting day and time on Friday afternoon. Right now we're thinking about Sunday evenings.

This Friday, April 4, 2008, at 7 PM in Elletsville is the Monroe County Share the Fun. Corey, Kara, and Jess will be attending. Anyone wishing to attend needs to contact the others and figure out rides,etc.

This Saturday, April 5, 2008- Project Workshop Day!!

Please arrive at 9 am if possible to help with setup.

Wear green 4-H shirt (or green shirt) with nice jeans.

Ellen will be sending out final schedule. The officer training sessions will be set up as follows:

10-15 minutes: Good meeting/bad meeting skits

20 minutes: Split off into specific groups

20-30 minutes: Come together and practice officer meetings

Lindie and Ellen will plan Human Scavenger Hunt for an icebreaker.

Jennifer will buy soda and water for event. Everyone was asked to donate a bag of chips for event too. Ellen will get pizza ordered, and plates/napkins.

To get copies of your handouts, e-mail them to Jess by tomorrow. She will have Jeff make copies Friday, and give them to you Saturday. Otherwise, you can e-mail them to Ellen, or print them at any IU library. (Make at least 15 copies!)

IU Collegiate 4-H Meeting- Wednesday, Nov 28^th, 2007

1. Welcome!

2. Icebreaker-we skipped this because we didn’t have enough members in attendance.

3. Past Events

a. Ugly Sleeping Bag Party-discussed at the last meeting

b. Area One 4-H Officer Training-Kara gave a brief overview, 30-40 children attended, we received really good reviews. We also received a $100 donation!!

4. Sign up for Committees-A sign-up sheet was sent around.

5. Elections-Jess explained the rules of voting.

a. President-Jess and Ellen ran for the position.

i. It was unanimous that Jess and Ellen will serve as Co-President

b. Vice President-Abby nominated Livy and Cory to split the position.

i. Ellen moved to unanimously accept the Cory/Livy position of Co-President. Cory seconded the motion, it was accepted.

c. Treasurer-Cory made a motion, Abby seconded it to accept Alicia as Treasurer and Lindie as Secretary.

d. Service-Abby was elected as Chair.

e. Social-Cory made a motion to accept Kara as Chair, Alicia seconded the motion. Kara was elected.

f. Publicity-Virginia was elected as Chair.

g. History and Website-Allison was elected as Chair.

6. Volunteer Opportunities-Livy discussed these:

a. Ugly Sleeping Bag Party II-Jess can acquire a sewing machine to use, Alicia completed one sleeping bag over break and has extra pieces to use. We will meet Saturday, 1pm at Cory and Abbie’s house. Please let Livy know if you can attend!

b. Girls Inc Holiday Hoopla-Saturday the 8^th, Jess gave a synopsis of what we did last year. 2 slots are available (9-11, 11-1), please sign up on Facebook! We need someone to attend a volunteer training; it is Monday, 5:30pm at Fountain Square Mall. Livy, Kara, and Ellen will attend the training session.

c. Relay for Life Team-we need a captain who can attend monthly meetings if the club is interested in forming a team. Please contact Jess if you are interested!! If possible, ask your family members over Christmas break to donate. Kara will register our club on the website so that the club will receive updates.

d. Study-a-Thon-Lindie will send out an email with dates and times!! Please make checks out to IU Collegiate 4-H.

National Collegiate 4-H Conference- February 21-24

Early registration is due January 7^th!!! Prices increase by $25. Also, consider booking airfare to the conference. Please talk to Jess if you are interested in attending!
Each club has to vote for the location of the 2009 Conference. The choices are: Minnesota or Kansas City. The club voted to select Minnesota National Conference in 2009.

R100 Class-Jess will contact the GA to come and talk to the club about participating.

Various workshops on applying for college, scholarships, preparing, etc. Canceled due to lack of interest. Revamp for next year. Possibly create a traveling event. Lack of

Ugly sleeping bags: Friday, 11/9 @ 7- Corey’s house

Service project that creates sleeping bags out of old clothes (donated by Salvation Army) for the homeless. Coordinated with the Shalom Center. Cut cloth while watching a movie and having a potluck! Bring scissors and a dish to share. Friends welcome! Use our gift
card to buy scissors. Watch for the email. Sewing the following weekend.

Holiday Party:

Study-a-thon: Sunday, 12/9

Pledges for study hours. Ask for donations from friends, family, professors. Fundraiser for National Conference: 80% amount raised goes to your personal expenses, 20% to club. Teter formal lounge.

Upcoming Events:

4-H Achievement Banquet-Sunday 3:30-5:30pm, October 28, 2007

If you would like to go, please contact Ellen and she will try to coordinate rides. Ellen will send messages on Facebook about rides.

Need to come up with a 30 minute activity for participants. Consensus is to do a variety of icebreakers. Suggestions include: ”Trainwreck,” or human scavenger hunt. All members are encouraged to brainstorm some questions (approx. 10) to Ellen by Thursday (tomorrow). Another idea is to hold a fundraiser for Ross at the Banquet by using a jar of M&Ms or a large cookie and guessing how many M&Ms are in the jar or chocolate chips in the cookie. Ellen will be contacting the Monroe County Office to get papers printed.

Officer Training-November 13, 4:30-9:30pm. Jess, Livy, Kara can attend. We really need at least 6 people to go, please sign up if you can attend.

College Prep Weekend is Nov. 10- come to the committee meeting next week if you are interested in planning for this event!

Fundraiser Events:

Please pay dues-$5, Lindie will be collecting these at meetings.

We will not be raking leaves this weekend, there aren’t enough leaves on the ground yet!

The members of Indiana University’s Collegiate 4-H Club are inviting all high school Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors who are 4-H members in the selected counties to come to Bloomington for an informative and interactive college prep seminar! We will provide valuable information poised to help students transition into college life.

Some of the program’s features are:

A Hands-on scholarship and college application workshop
One-on-one interaction with college students
Learn about college life from the “experts” at a round-table discussion
Financial Aid advice for parents
Chance to earn a scholarship by attending
Chance to network with other college bound 4-H members

The program costs $6 if you preregister by October 26^th. Onsite registrations will be accepted for $10.

In attendance:

Jess opened the meeting. We discussed this week’s brainstorming meeting with Jeff and two Adult Leaders from Monroe County. The first part of the mass meeting will be conducted as a regular business meeting and the second half we will have open discussions. Alicia will bring an icebreaker that will last approximately 5 minutes. Livy will discuss some of the volunteer opportunities at the next meeting. Ellen will discuss Regional Conference, registration is due before our next meeting. Jess’s recommendation for reimbursement is to do this after the conference is over. We will require club members to fulfill the requirements for reimbursement by the date of the Regional Conference (requirements are: dues paid, participate in fundraising event, attend 2 meetings, attend social or service event).

We will collect dues at the next meeting ($5).

Lindie will contact the Student Activities Office about flyering and scheduling a time to sell pizza.

Kara and Alicia will discuss social events at the mass meeting.

Jess will be emailing out 4-H Volunteer Forms and requesting that members bring the filled out form to the next meeting.

First, divide into small groups and make sure that an officer is in each group along with other members. Second, come back together as one big group to discuss everything.
Ellen, Livy and Lindie will serve as facilitators for the small groups. During the small groups we will discuss: volunteer opportunities, issues Monroe County 4-H is having, and how our club can help the Monroe County 4-H Program and how our club can establish a relationship with the Monroe County 4-H Program.

The IU Collegiate 4-H Club is excited to be going into its second year on campus. We will be meeting on Wednesdays from 8-9PM in Education Building Room 1225. We meet every 2 weeks. Join us for some fun times volunteering with kids!

Our first meeting of the year will be September 5, 2007 at 8PM in Room 1225. Come learn about Collegiate 4-H and all the service opportunities and fun we can offer you!

End of the Year Review

The first year of the Indiana University Collegiate 4-H has come and gone! We've been named the North Central Region Collegiate 4-H New Club of the Year, the National Collegiate 4-H Organization's New Club of the Year, and an Indiana University Student Organization Award of Merit for Civic Engagement.

Throughout the year our 20 club members have had 13 meetings, 12 service projects, 7 visits to the Boys and Girls Club of Bloomington, had club members attend a Regional and National Collegiate 4-H Conference, sent members to county and statewide 4-H volunteer training and leadership development workshops, and attended various county Jr. Leaders and local 4-H club meetings. In our spring semester we provided 4 leadership trainings for 4-H members of varying ages, held two successful fundraisers, and begin planning for our fall semester. We look forward to attracting new members and being able to conduct more and larger programs! In Fall 2007, the club looks forward to growing, attending the Regional Collegiate 4-H Conference at Purdue University, and possibly holding a 4-H host weekend at IU!

Boys & Girls Club—April 27th, 3:30-4:30-Rachel is coordinating apple crisp with ice cream. Katie and Ellen are also attending, please come out for some fun!

SAO Celebration—April 24th, 6-7pm, Alumni Center. Mary, Rachel, and Lindie are attending.

Wide-a-Wake—April 19th, 7-7:30pm, Grandview Elementary. Mary and Sam are attending.

Our care package will be very much appreciated by 10 soldiers working in
a medical clinic in Iraq. They are deployed from Ft. Lewis, WA until
July 2007. These medics work very long, hard hours taking care of the
wounded soldiers and they truly appreciate our thoughtfulness.

Requests: dvd movies, coffee, creamer, instant oatmeal,
tuna pouches and snack packs, drink mix singles, snacks, magazines and books

(as far as movies go, ASK around: Movies Music and More (in the dorms),
Libraries and Movie Rental places are sometimes looking to get rid of

and we will have more than enough (which is good because sometimes
soldiers get sent over to join a platoon later than the others, so no
one should be left out!) In the letters, you are more than welcome to
ask them to write back, and include your address. They usually will
write you a letter to thank you, and you may even gain a penpal if
you'd like.

Ellen gave an update on Share the Fun in Ellettsville, Indiana. Jess, Mary, and Sabrina judged at Share the Fun and Lindie and Ellen hosted the event.

Elizabeth recapped Relay for Live where IU Collegiate 4-H raised over $1200.
Kara gave an overview of the Junior Leader meeting. At the meeting Junior Leaders were asked to help with project workshop day.

Ellen gave an overview of the Committees and a sign-up sheet was passed around.

Lindie discussed the Bloom Magazine Fundraiser. Please contact her if you can help!
Jessica explained the details of the VITAL service project. It will be held at Monroe County Library, Monday-Thursday 6:15-9pm.
Ellen and Livy are taking care of food for Project Workshop day.

T-Shirts/Polos

Jennifer presented the info about T-Shirts and Polos. Those present voted for T-Shirts, green with Collegiate 4-H logo on front and slogan on back. These will be in the $6.50 price range, according to Jess’ connections. Jess will e-mail info to Jennifer, who will get estimates for 20, 30, and 40 T-Shirts. If they are cheap enough, we will order extra for next year’s new members.

Share the Fun on Friday, March 23, 2007 in Elletsville

We need to be there by 6:15, and the event will last from 7 to 9 PM. We are still in need of drivers- thus far, our only driver is Livy. We can use more stagehands, and anyone is welcome to come and watch the talent show!

Junior Leaders Meeting on Monday, April 2, 2007
Recruit our Project Workshop day. Starts at 7:30 PM, short time commitment. Kara and Jess are probably going- if interested, contact them!

Boys and Girls Club on Friday, April 6.

Mircrowave and cooking project. Ellen, Katie and Jacob will probably be there. Jennifer and Rachel will fill out volunteer forms so they can be there too. Jess- get project book from Jeff! If anyone has any ideas of what we should bake, e-mail Katie or Ellen. So far, we think we might be making puppy chow!

Also on Friday April 6- Bloom Magazine Delivery Fundraiser ($400!!!! Please Help!!)

We need 5 people to pick up the magazines on Friday and deliver them over the weekend. Need 5 drivers and 5 passengers- work in pairs. We may be able to deliver Monday, since this is Easter weekend. Lindie will e-mail with more details.

Members present agreed a good idea. Have people pledge money per hour of studying, rent a room, and study all day the Saturday before finals. We will discuss at next meeting…

Banquet/Party!! Last Meeting of Semester, on April 17, Jacob and Kara will plan something awesome for our club to do (probably go out to eat, maybe give out awards?)

4-H Host Weekend Committee: Livy, Ellen, and Alicia have signed up so far. We will need a lot of people to plan this, and it will be a lot of fun!

Project Workshop Day (Saturday, April 14):
Livy and Ellen will organize food for the event

Adopt a Platoon- Send a care package every so often (once a month, etc) to troops overseas. We will try to send a small package from just our club before the end of the school year, and will try to get more donations for next fall. We might be able to ask for donations at SAO end of the year banquet- Jess will look into it!!

March 6th Meeting Minutes

The meeting was called to order by Jessica Falkenthal. A total of thirteen members were in attendance. Jacob led an icebreaker and provided snacks. Lindie collected dues ($5).

Those in attendance discussed ordering club shirts. Lindie moved to send this to committee, Jacob seconded the motion. Jennifer will form the committee and bring more information to the next meeting.

Old Business: Sabrina and Jessica commented on their trip to the National Collegiate 4-H Conference. Sam and Jessica outlined their experience at the Monroe County/Area 4-H Officer Training. Ellen and Sabrina discussed the 4-H Poultry Club Benefit Dinner and Silent Auction that occurred last week. Kara and Jessica attended Find Out Night. Lindie and Jessica attended the Central District Leaders Clinic and brought back information on how to judge at County Fairs.

New Business:
Share the Fun will be Friday, March 23 at Edgewood High School at 7pm. Those who volunteered include: Judges- Jessica, Rachel, Sabrina; Emcees- Ellen, Lindie; Backstage Assistance- Kara and Sam. Jessica will be emailing those who signed up to attend.
Relay for Life is March 30-April 1 from 4pm-9am. Money needs to be turned in by March 20th along with luminary bags. Our club still needs to turn in our $100 registration fee. Jennifer will check into restaurants for a fundraising opportunity. You can send the names of cancer survivors to Jennifer by March 20th to get the names printed in the programs. If you have a tent please contact Jennifer. Registration for the event will start at 3pm at the outdoor track.
Monroe County/Area 4-H Project Workshop Day is Saturday, April 14 10-2pm. If you need more information please contact Jessica.
Boys and Girls Club, Friday, April 6 4-5pm. We will be conducting at Microwave Food demonstration. Food will be provided by Jeff, Monroe County Extension Educator. Please contact Jessica if you can help out.

Jessica opened the meeting. Seven member in attendence.

Jennifer made a motion to reimburse Jessica $50 for national dues and $50 for regional dues. Ellen seconded the motion. It was put to vote, 6-0 in favor.

Jessica moved to delegate herself to cast 2 votes for the club at nationals. Lindie seconded the motion. Motion passes with 6-0 vote.

Find Out Night scheduled for February 27th. The club decided to attend this function instead of having a regular meeting.

Officer Training “Training” will be held February 20th from 8:15-9:15pm. Contact Jessica with any questions.

Swine Speaking Opportunity- February 22nd. Contact Jessica if you would like to attend.

The January 30, 2007 IU Collegiate 4-H meeting was called to order by Jessica Falkenthal. A total of eighteen members were present at the meeting.

Jessica opened the meeting by welcoming everyone. Kara led an icebreaker and provided snacks. Jessica outlined what Collegiate 4-H is by showing a powerpoint. She also discussed club logistics. Ellen promoted the committees to those present.

Upcoming events were outlined by Jessica, those included were:
Boys and Girls Club- Friday, February 2, March 2, April 6 from 4-5pm
Chocolate Fest- Saturday, February 3-1:30-4pm, Bloomington Convention Center: NOTE: please arrive 30 minutes early.
Junior Leaders Meeting- Monday, February 5-5pm-7:30pm, Monroe County Fairgrounds; we need 2-3 volunteers to go and explain what Collegiate 4-H and promote the club, Kara, Mary, and Jess volunteered.
Find Out Night-As of February 6, 2007 this event has been cancelled.

Lindie Hohler, Alicia Jennings, Ellen Weinzapfel and Jessica Falkenthal met in Teter Formal Lounge at 5 PM to discuss fundraising opportunities for the club. Here are the main ideas:

Moose Club of Bloomington, IN – Jess called at the meeting. All we need to do is give a short presentation on our history and what their donation will be used for.

Fazoli’s Night- Have a night where we get so much of the profits. Lindie is looking into this.

Selling food in Ballantine Hall- Pizza, Dagwoods, Chipotle

Bloom Magazine- We deliver their magazines for them on a Friday morning. They contact us on a Thursday, and we have to provide 10 people the next morning.

Baby-sitting- Tulip Tree Apartments give $10 an hour. We could go in pairs and make some money for the club! Also look into watching kids for adult 4-H leaders while they have their meetings every few months

Concessions or parking at basketball games

This Spring: A carwash, Study-A-Thon, Sidewalk Chalk Show, collaborating with Junior Leaders (cleaning up after sports events and we get a share of the profits), other campus events that the SAO can sponsor

Next Year: A 4-H day involving some IU sporting event (maybe Women’s Basketball?) and showing teenagers around the campus

We also discussed some grants that the club can apply for. In particular, the Service Grant worth $5,000 and the Heart and Hands awards ($500 to organization if someone wins)

We decided to go through Jeff Holland, 4-H Development Coordinator in Monroe County, to get a bank account. Lindie said she would get in touch with Jeff about this, and let us know when we can start collecting dues.

We also decided that it may be worthwhile to appeal to Monroe County for some kind of charitable donation since we are doing so much for their clubs this semester.

4-H Youth Development, Social, and Relay for Life Committee Meetings

The meeting started at 8:15 PM in the Education Building, room 1004. In attendance were Ellen Weinzapfel, Kara Thompson, Jacob Taulman, Katie Graham, Livy Wilz, Alicia Jennings, Heather Oklak, Sam Snyder, Sabrina Slack, Jennifer Collins, and Jessica Falkenthal.

4-H Youth Development Committee Meeting Minutes:

Find Out Night- Tuesday, February 6, 2007, 6-8pm. Discussed activities to do with kids- a scavenger hunt in which kids go to each booth to find answers to questions about local 4-H clubs. Give a prize to child with most answers. Sam and Sabrina volunteered to make up questions. Renee volunteered to make a display. We decided that next year we should take up some kind of donation for Monroe County 4-H.

Officer Training- Wednesday, February 21, 2007, 6:30-8:30 pm. Fairgrounds booked, food will be prepared and served by 4-H Board of Directors. Registration forms are due to the 4-H office by February 14- Sam, Ellen, and Alicia volunteered to get the forms and organizing them for the event. We need to focus on Parli Pro. If need be, we can develop handouts for scrapbook and devotions leaders too.

Training for Officer Training- February 10, 1-3PM in Wilkie. Ellen will schedule room and let everyone know where this will be.

Orange County Officer Training- We agreed that the week in April after Easter (8-13) would work best. Sometime in the evening. They will provide compensation for travel (gas money), but they wanted us to come the same weekend as our project workshops, which seems like too much for one weekend. We will discuss rearranging the date, and hopefully it will still work out.

Public Speaking Workshop- Saturday, March 3, 2007, 10am-12pm Monroe County Fairgrounds. Give good and bad demonstrations, ask kids to tell us what is wrong and what is right.

Monroe County Share the Fun Talent Show- Jeff needs two-three Judges for this event that know about theatre and musicals. The rest of us might go to watch anyway!

Project Workshop Day- Saturday, April 14, 2007. Need to schedule Fairgrounds. Jessica passed around a sign-up sheet for different projects everyone is interested in talking about.

4-H Poultry Club- Friday, February 23, 2007, 6PM. Asked us to do a chicken-themed craft table to occupy children at their dinner. They will supply us with rides and anything we need for activities.

Relay For Life Committee Meeting Minutes

Jennifer and Heather are attending a meeting on Wednesday, February 7 to get more ideas for fundraising. One idea Jennifer had was to sell products from the Body Shop- we would get 20% profits of what we sell, and at the end we could have some sort of product party to demonstrate how products work to potential buyers.

Social Committee Meeting Minutes

For February 24, 2007- Collaboration with Service Committee about Bowl for Kids Sake- weeklong event with Boys and Girls Club. Inquire at next visit with Boys and Girls club.

For Second Meeting, January 30, 2007, Kara will bring refreshments and plan icebreakers.

What Can Collegiate 4-H Do For Monroe County?

On Saturday, January 20, 2007, 7 of our IU Collegiate 4-H members attended the Monroe County 4-H Adult Leader Workshop. We facilitated a discussion on "What can Collegiate 4-H do for YOU?" and got some wonderful feedback. Here are my notes from the discussion. As you can see, not only did we gain volunteer opportunities, we also found out about some great fundraisers!

· Training youth leaders in clubs to take over and run meetings. Help them with an introduction to public speaking, parly pro, mixers, talking and engaging new club members, and working to involve everyone in club activites.

· 4-H websites: Attempt to have more resources online. Kids tend to be more internet savvy- perhaps we could sponsor a workshop to teach them how to design and run an efficient 4-H website.

· “Bringing the 4-H back into 4-H” Where did all of the good, old-fashioned fun go? Let’s focus less on the ribbons and prizes and more on working together and learning to have fun with projects.

· Having Collegiate 4-H members come speak at club meetings (we are completely willing to do so)

· Helping to set up and run livestock shows

· Work together with 4-H clubs on service projects. We have many ideas for service ideas, and can always use more people; we know many of the clubs have the same problem. Volunteering together is a great opportunity to integrate Collegiate 4-H into Monroe County 4-H!

· Mini 4-H Day Camp run by Collegiate 4-H (we think this is a great idea!!)

· Offer some technology training for 4-H clubs and officers in Power Point.

· Volunteer Opportunity with Junior Leaders- Operation Military Kids

· Volunteer Opportunity- Spaghetti Dinner (run a craft table for children)

· IU Bass Fishing Club coming to Sports Fishing 4-H Club to talk- I will look into that!!

Bloomington Moose Club- Funding Opportunity???

We will be discussing these opportunities at future meetings, but I would encourage everyone to pick out their favorite ideas and elaborate!

The meeting was called to order by club President Jessica Falkenthal. A total of eleven members were present.
Our first meeting of the new year was a call-out meeting for new members. Jessica opened by welcoming everyone. Ellen and Jessica facilitated two icebreakers. Jessica presented a PowerPoint that included what Collegiate 4-H involves, previous projects that the club participated in last year, and club logistics. The floor was then turned over to Ellen. She gave a short description of each committee. Committee sign-up sheets were passed around for new member sign-ups.

The conference shall
• provide leadership training to develop the resources within the Collegiate 4-H program.

• be a medium to share ideas for Collegiate 4-H activities of regions and member clubs on a national level.

• renew the organization’s commitment to serve 4-H youth and to provide community service at all levels

This year, the Southern Region is trying to bring Collegiate 4-H members from around the country one of the most memorable conferences ever! Louisiana State University and the Southern Region are hosting the conference in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on February 15-18, 2007. We believe the diverse culture and rich history of Baton Rouge and the state of Louisiana will provide an excellent setting for the 2007 National Collegiate 4-H Conference with the theme

of “Rally in the Red Stick”. This four day conference will include leadership workshops, keynote speakers, national and regionalbusiness meetings, a national community service project, tours of local museums and attractions, an awards banquet, and a dance.

During the annual National Conference, delegates participate in many leadership activities including educational workshops and listening to nationally known speakers. The delegates from across the country then take the ideas they have learned during the conference back to

their respective states and schools where they use this information to teach younger youth leadership concepts to help them excel. Delegates also learn from these workshops and utilize the information to create in themselves a better role model for the youth of today while also enriching their own lives and growing personally.

January 9th Service and Publicity/Promotions Committee Meeting Meetings

Friday, January 12- Ellen and Katie will plan this event. They hoping to focus on highlighting a few 4-H projects and play a board game.
Friday, February 2- Will be planned at a later date, after we have our new members registered to volunteer.
Jennifer and Rachel are working on their Boys and Girls Club volunteer applications, so that they can attend the next one.

MLK Day Fair of Fun- Monday January 15, 11AM-3PM
Supplies involved: potatoes- Jessica, construction paper, printer paper and paint- Katie, cookie cutters- Jacob.
Still needed: disposable table cloth, styrofoam or plastic plates or bowls to put the paint on.
4-H Display: Jessica will contact Jeff at the 4-H Office to see if he can supply 200 flyers, bookmarks, and stickers. Possibly 4-H tattoos if they are available.
Jessica will also see if Jeff can supply a list of projects, information on 4-H Find Out Night and possibly a 4-H display board.

If Jeff can't supply a display board, Renee and Sam will work on one.
Shifts for the event are:

Jacob will pick up members of the second shift at 12:40PM in front of Read to drive them over and has volunteered to drive them back to campus after their shift well.

Clay County 4-H Officer Training- Monday January 15, 7-9PM
Members of IU Collegiate 4-H will travel to the Clay County 4-H Fairgrounds to shadow Purdue Collegiate 4-H in their officer training. Each IU Collegiate 4-H in attendance will be in charge of training other Collegiate 4-H members in February.
On February 21st, IU Collegiate 4-H will be training Monroe County 4-H officers and other counties on how to do their roles.
Volunteers include: Ellen, Jessica, Sam, Katie, and Jacob. Lindie will possibly attend if she is back from her trip by then.

Monroe County 4-H Volunteer Orientation- Saturday, January 20, 10-2PM
This event will be held at the MCL Cafeteria. Lunch will be provided
4 members of the club will be facilitating a group discussion among 4-H Volunteers as to ways that IU Collegiate 4-H, the county 4-H program and clubs can work together to create new opportunities.
Those attending will be: Alicia, Ellen, Rachel, and Jessica

Chocolate Fest- Saturday, February 3- 1-4:30
Jessica made contact with Options for Better Living to get volunteer information for this event. Hundreds of people in Monroe County will be submitting chocolate cakes, cookies, chocolates, brownies, pies, decorated cakes, fudge, etc to be judged. After judging takes place early in the morning, items will be cut up into bite sized pieces and will fill the entire convention center with an all you can eat chocolate buffet!
The event needs volunteers to help in various opportunities and then during the evening, all volunteers get free entry to the tasting. Regular admission is $10. (The entire Convention Center will be filled with free chocolates)
The club decided to take the 1-4:30 shift of cutting and arranging chocolate.
Interested Volunteers include: Sam, Lindie, Renee, Ellen, Jennifer, and Jessica.

Relay for Life
Jennifer discussed several ideas for fundraisers for Relay for Life.

It's really important that everyone does this as soon as possible. The website will give each person their own website to use to help collect donations. Family members and friends can donate via the website or print out a form on your page that will make sure that the money donated is credited to the member and our team.
The co-captains will check with IU Relay for Life to explore other options for fundraising and participating at the event. They will provide more information at the next meeting.

New Ideas
After looking through several brochures, club members determined that the projects that they were most interested in for the future include soup kitchens, WonderLab, playing with animals, and working with senior citizens at Bell Trace retirement community.
Ellen will contact the organization that lets volunteers play with animals. Our new service chair will work on setting up the club with the other volunteer opportunities.

New Service Committee Chair
Finally, Rachel Bogle was chosen as the Service Committee Chair for the Spring Semester.

Publicity and Promotions Committee
Renee, Publicity and Promotions Committee Chair led this part of the meeting.
The ideas for publicity for this semester include flyering, chalking, and e-mailing former 4-H members from the spreadsheet that Jeff provided us with.
An emphasis was put on focusing on dorms, especially near elevators.
Renee and Sam will design a new flyer.
Sam, Jessica, and Ellen volunteered to help flyer campus. Flyering will take place on Thursday.

IU Collegiate 4-H Meeting Minutes:

The December 7, 2006 IU Collegiate 4-H meeting was called to order by Jessica Falkenthal. A total of ten members were present at the meeting.

Old business: Holiday Hoopla, sponsored by Girls, Inc., will occur on Saturday, December 9, 2006. All those who volunteered need to be present at 9:20 am for the cooking workshop. Our group is scheduled to volunteer from 9:20 until 12:30, be prepared to stay later if needed. Later we will be caroling with the Jr. Leaders from 4-6:30. Sabrina, Renee, and Jessica volunteered to attend.

New business: Our first order of new business was to conduct officer elections for the following calendar year. After nominations were closed for each officer it was moved by Lindie to accept Jessica as our President and Jacob seconded the motion. The motion was passed. Lindie moved to accept Ellen as Vice-President; this was seconded by Katie and the motion passed with a unanimous decision. After voting, Katie was elected as the club Secretary. Ellen then moved to accept Lindie as the club’s Treasurer, seconded by Renee. The motion passed.

Next on the agenda was the formation of Standing Committees. Volunteers for the 4-H Youth Development Programming Committee were Sabrina, Lindie, Sam, Kara, and Ellen. This committee will be chaired by Jessica. Those volunteering to be on the Service Committee were Katie, Jacob, Renee, Jessica, Sabrina, and Lindie. The chairperson will be decided upon a later date. Members who volunteered for the Fundraising Committee were Ellen and Jessica. It will be chaired by the treasurer, Lindie. Volunteers for the Social Committee were Jacob and Kara with no decision on who will chair this committee. Heather, Ellen, and Sam volunteered to form the Publicity and Promotions Committee with Renee acting as the chairperson. Members of the Regional Communications Committee are Sabrina and Heather. This committee is chaired by Jessica. Jessica and Ellen will co-chair the History and Website Committee.

Following the formation of these committees the club reviewed and revised the Constitution and By-Laws. There were several changes, most of them being typo or clarification errors, one section was struck due to a conflict with prior wording. Jacob moved to strike the section and Lindie seconded the motion. It was carried. Lindie then moved to approve the Constitution, this was seconded by Jacob, Ellen, Sam, Sabrina, et al. Motion passed unanimously.

Events already scheduled on the 2007 calendar are a visit to the Boys and Girls Club on Friday, January 12. We will do a program that will educate the children on different types of 4-H projects. Monday, January 15 the club will be participating in a Martin Luther King Jr. Day service project at Bloomington South High School. Our specific activity will be potato stamping. Further details will be forthcoming. There will be two shifts one from 10:45 until 12:45 with Katie, Jessica, Ellen, and Jacob volunteering to be present. From 12:45 until 2:15 Renee, Sabrina, and Sam will be overseeing this activity. On the evening of the 15^th Officer Training will be provided by the Purdue Collegiate 4-H Club at Clay County. Ellen, Jessica, Renee, Sabrina, Sam, Katie, and Jacob will be attending this event. Currently the specifics of this event are unknown. Further details will be provided by e-mail.

Discussion of the next meeting ensued and it was decided that meetings will be held on Tuesday evenings at 8:15 in the Education Building. The specific room will be provided in a later e-mail after details have been finalized.

Tuesday. January 9, 2007 the Service and Publicity and Promotions Committees will meet. The first meeting of the IU Collegiate 4-H Club during the 2007 calendar year will occur on January 16, 2007 with more details forthcoming.
