What is Collegiate 4-H?

Next Jessica Falkenthal discussed what Collegiate 4-H is. Collegiate 4-H is an opportunity for college students to be adult volunteers for the 4-H program. No 4-H experience is required! (If you are still a 4-H member, you're welcome to join as well.) We have 3 main components: Service, Social, and 4-H. Social events could include (depending on what the social committee decides) a BBQ, going out to eat together, bowling, iceskating, camping, laser tag, movies, etc. Service activities could vary depending on members' interests, which is why it is important to fill out the attached form!
Potential activities involving 4-H include mentoring local 4-H members, presenting workshops to county 4-H and clubs, offering officer trainings, hosting a winter retreat for 4-H members at IU, and holding a "Visit IU" event to give high school aged 4-H members a taste of college life, campus
(An example is available at http://clubs.ca4h.org/collegiate4h/ucd/ysddays2006.htm )
Please visit http://www.collegiate4h.org/links.asp to find more ideas from other clubs that you'd be interested in for our club and bring at least one to the next meeting!

Many opportunities exist at the regional and national level for Collegiate 4-H members. Jessica is already involved as a webmaster for the national website, which means she's part of the national leadership team.

Brainstorming Session
The club participated in a brainstorming session of potential activities for the club.

National 4-H Week

October 1-7th
National 4-H Week is held annually as a time to celebrate, promote and share the 4-H movement! We'd like to hold a social event and do some 4-H and Collegiate 4-H promotion this week. Be thinking of ideas!
More information is available at http://www.collegiate4h.org/docs/natdocs/Advocacy/4-HWeek/

National Collegiate 4-H Service Day
Saturday, October 7th
We hope to conduct a service project on this day. After everyone's filled out the Service Form, we'll be able to find an appropriate project that everyone will enjoy!

North Central Regional Collegiate 4-H Conference
The National Collegiate 4-H Organization is divided into 4 regions. This conference is being held October 20-22 in Rapid City, South Dakota and will give clubs the opportunity to meet and learn from other clubs. Delegates will have the opportunity to tour Mount Rushmore, learn how to pan for gold, network, and have fun! Registration fee is $60. Flights to Rapid City are $500; however, flights into Denver are only $200 and then an 8 hour drive from there.

CLUB OPPORTUNITIES
Camping Trip
The club expressed interest in a club camping retreat at the end of October during the October 27-29 weekend. We would be camping in a cabin with facilities). Jessica will look into possible arrangements to be discussed at the next meeting. Actual dates (including whether the event will be 1 night or two) and times will be voted on via the listserv.
Please set yourself up to vote by registering a Yahoo ID at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iucollegiate4h/

Leadership Team
Instead of electing officers during the first month while our club is forming, the club is going to have Leadership Team instead. The Leadership Team will rotate who facilitates meetings, creates agendas, takes notes, and any other duties normally done by officers (until our new constitution is established.) or around December.

Constitution
The club currently has a temporary constitution in effect until we can decide how we want to operate. A new constitution needs to be writing including how many officers the club has and what their duties are, how the club will be run, how much dues will be (if any), when elections take place.
If you're interested in assisting in making these decisions or maybe helping write part of the constitution, please e-mail Jessica at j.falkenthal@gmail.com
